The daily migration of California Gulls in the winter - toward the beach at night, inland during the day - gave me the opportunity to add another layer of meaning to a gorgeous sunset. The intense and ephemeral colors here were created by the moisture in the atmosphere on the heels of a departing storm as the light drained from the sky, and the gulls once again returned to the ocean’s edge for the night.
